Accessible Composite Decking Transformation in Birchwood
DecKing designed and installed this 40m² Classic composite decking project in Birchwood, Warrington.
Finished in Classic Ash with contrasting Graphite fascia, edge detailing and bespoke planters, the deck creates a continuous step-free route from the conservatory, across the rear garden, around the side of the house and through to the driveway.

The Challenge
The garden needed to work around the customer’s accessibility requirements while still looking like an attractive, carefully designed outdoor space.
The route from the conservatory through the rear garden, around the side of the property and onto the driveway included changes in level that restricted easy movement between the different areas.
The customer also wanted a separate seating area positioned to benefit from the later sun. The complete design needed to connect this space with the conservatory, main garden and driveway without introducing steps or isolated sections.
Accessibility had to form part of the overall garden design rather than appearing as an addition to it.
The DecKing Solution
DecKing designed a 40m² Classic composite deck around one continuous level route.
The deck was installed flush with the conservatory entrance, creating step-free access directly into the garden. It continues across the rear of the property, around the side of the house and towards the driveway.
An integrated access ramp completes the connection between the garden and driveway, allowing the customer to move through the entire outdoor space without encountering steps.
Classic Ash composite decking was used across the main surface. Contrasting Classic Graphite fascia, edge trims and detailing define the perimeter and give the deck a strong, coordinated finish.
A separate seating area was incorporated into the layout to capture the later sun. Bespoke Graphite feature planters were added throughout the design, including larger planters beside the seating area and removable trough-style planters along the rear section.
The planters introduce colour and planting into the accessible layout without reducing the clear routes through the garden.
The Result
The completed project has transformed the garden into one connected and accessible outdoor space.
The customer can move directly from the conservatory across the rear deck, into the later-sun seating area, around the side of the property and onto the driveway using a continuous step-free route.
Classic Ash keeps the main deck bright and open, while the Graphite fascia, trims and planters provide contrast and structure. The bespoke planting features soften the composite installation and make the accessible design feel like a complete garden rather than a functional walkway.
The result combines practical accessibility, low-maintenance materials and detailed outdoor design in one 40m² composite decking installation.
