Project Story

Composite Dunster House Dominator Installation in Ormskirk

This Dunster House Dominator installation in Ormskirk created a dedicated garden office with a second purpose: a DJ studio for the customer’s nightly radio show. DecKing installed the grey composite Dominator on a purpose-built C24 timber base, adding Kingspan insulation, upgraded EPDM roofing, lighting, electrical sockets and wired broadband.

The Challenge

The customer wanted a dedicated space for working from home during the day and presenting his nightly DJ radio show in the evening.

Previously, the radio show had been broadcast from the dining room, bringing music and equipment into the family’s shared living space. A standalone garden building offered the opportunity to move both work and broadcasting into their own dedicated room.

The chosen building was an approximately 3.5m × 2.5m Dunster House Dominator Composite Pent in grey. Positioned farther down the garden, it needed a suitable base, additional insulation, a durable roof covering and the electrical and broadband connections required for its intended use.

The challenge was to bring these elements together as one installation, creating a practical garden office and DJ studio rather than simply assembling an empty building.

The DecKing Solution

DecKing constructed a purpose-built C24 timber frame to provide a level base, keeping the Dominator slightly raised above the surrounding ground.

Our team then assembled the composite Dunster House Dominator, including the main structure, composite cladding, doors, windows and pent roof.

Additional Kingspan insulation was incorporated into the build to improve its thermal performance. The roof covering was upgraded to EPDM rubber roofing, with a 50-year expected material lifespan and a separate 25-year DecKing workmanship warranty covering the roofing installation.

We also completed the electrical installation, bringing a dedicated RCBO-protected supply from the house consumer unit into the garden. Wall lighting and electrical sockets were installed to support both everyday office use and the customer’s DJ equipment.

A wired broadband connection completed the setup, providing a connection for working from home and presenting the nightly radio show.

By coordinating the timber base, building assembly, additional insulation, EPDM roof, electrics and broadband, DecKing delivered the installation as one complete project.

The Result

The completed composite Dunster House Dominator gives the customer a dedicated home office by day and a separate DJ studio by night.

Moving these activities out of the dining room frees up the family’s shared living space and gives the customer somewhere to keep his work and broadcasting equipment.

The grey composite exterior provides a contemporary finish, while the upgraded roof, additional insulation, lighting, sockets and wired broadband support the building’s intended uses.

This Ormskirk project demonstrates how a professionally installed Dunster House Dominator can become a workspace tailored to the customer, with the base, building and additional services planned together from the outset.

The Dominator formed part of a wider garden project that also included an attached Dunster House AddRoom and composite decking.

DecKing’s building installation is covered by our 10-year workmanship warranty, with a separate 25-year workmanship warranty covering the EPDM roofing installation.
