Project Story

Composite Decking and Dunster House Garden Rooms in Burscough

This garden project in Burscough, Ormskirk, brought together two Dunster House garden buildings, composite decking, a raised planter and a timber walkway. DecKing installed a detached Dominator for use as a home office and DJ studio, alongside an AddRoom home office connected directly to the house, with the outdoor areas planned around how the family wanted to use the space.

The Challenge

The family needed two separate workspaces alongside a comfortable outdoor area for relaxing and enjoying the garden.

The detached garden building would provide a dedicated home office during the day and somewhere to present a DJ radio show in the evening. The second office needed plenty of natural light, views across the garden and convenient access from the house.

The wider layout also needed careful planning. The buildings, decking and walkway had to work together, with the base heights and finished floor levels considered from the outset to make access between the spaces easier.

The aim was to create useful indoor and outdoor spaces that suited the family’s everyday routines, with the buildings and surrounding garden work delivered as one coordinated project.

The DecKing Solution

DecKing managed the base construction, installation of both Dunster House buildings, roofing upgrades, electrical work and surrounding decking.

For the detached office, we installed a grey composite Dunster House Dominator on a purpose-built C24 timber base. Additional Kingspan insulation, upgraded EPDM roofing, lighting, electrical sockets and wired broadband prepared the building for working from home and presenting the customer’s radio show.

At the house, we constructed a concrete base for a 3m × 3m Dunster House AddRoom. The finished floor was aligned with the house to provide level access through the existing French doors. The installation included two rooflights, upgraded black Britmet composite slate roofing, lighting and sockets.

The composite decking created a new outdoor seating area, with a raised planter incorporated into the garden layout. A timber walkway connected the different spaces, helping bring the buildings and outdoor areas together.

By coordinating the bases, buildings and surrounding work, we could plan the floor levels and access as part of the overall layout.

The Result

The completed project gives the family two dedicated home offices and a new outdoor seating area.

The Dominator provides a separate space for working and broadcasting, while the AddRoom offers a bright office directly connected to the home. Its position also gives the family flexibility to use it as additional living space in the future.

The composite decking, raised planter and timber walkway bring the outdoor areas together, creating places to sit, move between the buildings and enjoy the garden. Matching the AddRoom floor with the house provides a level transition into the new room.

This Burscough project shows how garden building installation and decking can be planned together to create a practical layout for both work and family life.

DecKing provides a 10-year workmanship warranty covering our installation.
